I use my PC as my current server (which is switched on 24/7) I never switch my PC off aside from being a server anyway.

My PC Specs are: Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9550 @2.83GHz, 12GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760, Seagate 2TB HDD.

I have a 2TB WDMyCloud Nas device attached to my network, I use Plex to share locally and with family and friends. And must admit works very well til now.

My shared content is growing daily along with friends attached sharing it. My original question was how long could my PC continue to support the increasing users, and my system continue to support the server?

There are some network connection speed issues at times...along with playback etc...although believed to be the actual network not my system?

Do I need to purchase an actual dedicated server like a Netgear ReadyNAS Server....or will my setup be fine?, and for how many users at the same time before my system struggles?
Is my setup fairly good for a home network and slightly wider server or is it likely to struggle under a higher load?

Thx in advance for any opinions, ideas or information.

There are many tutorials on youtube for it. Like Do it yourself home media servers
If you would like to transform an old unused pc into one, you would need to install an os like lubuntu (i think thats what its called)
and do a bunch of setting up

Here are some videos on it on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=diy+home+media+server

And the old computer transform into media server thing i was talking about:

Some things in the video may be a SLIGHT bit outdated

You can use your current computer too
you can also use software like readynas like u mentioned
its all up to u
