I would like to purchase new 27 inch 2k monitor as I am working on it and I am after the real estate of the extra pixels. I would hook up my laptop which supports 4k so I would be fine for work. I am also gaming, mainly CS:GO and would really like 120hz or more from my monitor. Currently my GPU (HD 6870) at 1920x1200 and high details is doing 120fps but my monitor is only 60hz. My specs are:

Asus M4A88TD-M EVO/USB3 880G
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
XFX HD 6870 1GB GDDR5
Corsair 500W CX Series PSU
8GB RAM

The monitors I was looking at are:
http://www.ebuyer.com/725889-asus-mg278q-27-wqhd-freesy...

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/acer-predator-xg270huomi...

They are both FreeSync monitors, so I guess I would lean towards AMD card with these options.

So my questions are:

- Are these monitors good options for 2k 144hz?
- Would either of these with r9 390 and a new PSU is the best option or if you have any other suggestions?
- Would r9 390 running 1440p do over 100fps in CS:GO (therefore 144hz is worthwile)?
- Also, would PSU and new GPU play nicely with the rest of the system or am I looking at further updates?

Budget is not unlimited but I am looking to upgrade the rest of the system over time. Just want a solid starting point at 2k 120/144hz. Also, if you think going Nvidia root would work out better with overall price (considering monitors are priced higher) please let me know. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

The link for you Overclockers.co.uk isn't working. Please pass on one that works. I would choose the Asus monitor on the Ebuyer site though it would be better if you could pass on a budget for your endeavor.

I would go with current gen GPU's because you're going to look towards higher resolution and is the case with many of us that we may venture into other titles simply because now, we can with more power in our hands. CS:GO apparently can go as much as you want it to but are you in need of such high frames, our eyes can only perceive so much. Regardless current gen GPU's offer more potential to max out details and provide a constant high framerate.

You're biggest issue would be the CPU(and the motherboard+RAM) which would mean...
