Alright, so about 3 months ago, my computer completely locked up and froze while I was playing a game on it. I never found out what it was that caused it, but ever since then, my boot ups take about 5 minutes, my PC always has 100% disk usage for around 5 minutes, and sometimes I'll get random spikes of Disk Usage to 100%. I've tried everything, from disabling Superfetch and Windows Search and doing virus scans to doing a disk check and even disabling everything not Microsoft from running on start up. My hard drive (HDD) isn't making any noises, which is good, but could this be a loose SATA cable? Maybe some other trick I haven't heard about? Someone please help me if they can, because at this point it's becoming annoying. :(

Hey there, HplusGaming!

You should definitely try swapping the SATA cable that is connecting your HDD and also attempt to plug it in a different SATA port on the motherboard. If that doesn't improve the performance, I'd strongly recommend you to use the drive manufacturer's brand-specific diagnostic tool to test it. If you cannot find it on their official website, you can refer to some good third-party testing tool suggestions from the community. These utilities will help you determine the health and S.M.A.R.T. status of your HDD.

Keep us posted with the results.

Actually, it cuold be a sata cable. Leave only the HDD, and replug it on both sides. A new cable would also be a good idea.
