Hey guys,

i have been wanting to swap to linux for quite a while now, but i keep seeming to bump into problems that i only get on this pc.

I dont have problems booting on linux, its when its booted. It seems to not support my hardware or something.

Linux mint has to run in software render or something and is very buggy
Zorin has a black screen and asks me to login and when i login in same error.
Ubuntu says something like unity has crashed.

I was wondering if it would work correctly if i installed it instead of running of a live usb. Or if my pc will not ever work properly with linux in general.

here are the specs:

any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
James

You're going to want to use whatever nVidia binary drivers package is available for whichever distribution you choose - the open-source drivers ("nouveau") are really not very good and probably don't even support your GTX970 yet (hence the fallback to software rendering). The official closed-source drivers are pretty much at performance parity with the Windows ones (I've used them on Gentoo for many years).

There will probably be some kind of "non-free" package library/repository that you will need to add to your allowed package sources - see the distro's documentation/wiki/forums for details.
