Hello all,
Im trying to get a build together reading for the GTX 1080 release.
I want to go all out on the Video card but go with cheaper prices on the other parts, trying to keep this build cheap.

If I chose to go with a i5 4460 would it bottle neck the GPU playing games at at 1440p res?

Solution

It will not be huge in games.

The graphics card does most of the work in games and i5's are very capable CPUs.

You might want to spend money on a high quality gaming monitor running at 144Hz if you dont already have one. A good screen will...

Please keep in mind.....there's always a 'bottleneck' somewhere :)

The i5 4460 will certainly work well with the GTX 1080, though there are (of course) processors that would allow for more FPS with the same GPU.

A great start though.....and can always build from there if you find you need to (and you may very well not).

A guess isn't going to help you.

You need to wait and evaluate your PC when the thing is released. FPS is certainly not everything and is irrelevant for many people who don't have a monitor to take advantage even if they could tell the difference between a few FPS in a game.

Would there be a huge difference between the 4460 and the 6600k? I know its different chipsets and ram, but with both running 16gb ram would it make that much of a difference to have the 2-300$ difference?

Go and ask for some opinion on this over at the monitor/Display forum
