could/should i upgrade my graphics card to gtx 980 or 980ti?

i have gtx 970
intel i7-6700 non k
16gb ddr4 ram
1tb memory
what im really wondering though is could my pc support a gtx 980 or higher graphics cards with the mobo and i7 i have now or would i also have to upgrade those?
