So I finally replaced my old AMD 5850 with a new Sapphire Nitro AMD 380x.
So I first don't uninstall the current drivers. Cos the last GPU upgrade I did was go from a 5670 to a 5850 which didn't require it. Swapped out the graphics card turned it on and all that happened was the lights went on, the fans spun up and nothing. Moniter didn't detect the screen and the computer went idle after about 5 seconds. Without the other components making their usual noises and lights. So I assume it didn't get very far after it powered up. Fans are even spinning on the graphics card.
Put my old card in and it worked fine. Uninstalled the drivers and made sure it got rid of all old drivers using AMDs uninstall feature. Restarted it and it booted fine with no drivers in a lovely low resolution.
Swapped the cards again. Same thing happened. Can't even get to the BIOS because the screen doesn't detect anything. Hell I don't even think it gets that far I dunno I can't see anything.
I got a 560W PSU which is above the minumum and just to be sure I unplugged a case fan and the USB CD drive to see if it might have been a power issue. No change. I can stick in the old GPU and it will boot up fine.
So I'm stumped now. I even tried changing the DVI slots around just to see if it will start magically working again. DVI-D to HDMI cable it is btw. I got a VGA around somewhere and a VGA to DVI adapter it came with the card. But I don't think that will fix anything.
