What should I upgrade my GTX 960 2gb to?

I know this will probably pop up a ton, since the new 1000 series cards coming out and all, but I wanted to know the opinions of others. I currently own a ZOTAC gtx 960 2gig AMP! Some of my games that I currently run (Rise of the tomb Raider, Dark souls 3) seem to have trouble running at a stable 60 without lowering the settings a bit, which I don't have a huge gripe with, but (especially in the case for Dark souls 3) I'm unfortunately dealing with lower graphics settings to even the console versions of these games (granted, having the game run at 60 should be enough to beat the consoles any day).
So for awhile now (especially after getting my pell grant refund back), I've been thinking about upgrading to a better card and probably selling off the 960. I'm very interested in the GTX 1070, but I obviously can't make a proper decision until some benchmarks are released. But my question is essentially.. what would be a good option for someone like me?
I'm running on a 1080p display. CPU is an i5-4460, 8 gigs of ddr3, and a 550w PSU. Running windows 8.1 and I don't plan to upgrade anytime soon. I'm also very comfortable at 1080p and have no real reason to upgrade to a better monitor.
So, should I wait for the 1070, or possibly go for a 970, or 980 since they seem to be dropping in price quite a bit? Money is also a concern too, but I'm just conflicted and wanna know what others think.

I would definitely recommend the 1070, it would be a huge upgrade for you. It's got more memory, and it's supposed to be more powerful than the Titan X.
I've seen some unofficial benchmarks that place it around the 970 in SLI.

I'm in the exact same boat with an almost identical setup (except I upgraded to Windows 10 and have 16 gigs/ram). My concerns are around any system constraints with my current hardware that I should consider before dropping the cash on the card alone. I have an Msi z97 mobo. Any help is appreciated!

If you want the 1070 to run at its potential, you'll need at least a 4th gen i5 processor. Anything better than that and you're golden. The z97 won't limit you in any way that will matter.
If you want the 1080 to run at its potential, a 4th gen i7 or better is required.
The 1070 will outperform the 980 at a lower price point. Just wait for the vendor modded cards to come out instead of the overpriced "founder's edition" cards.

For future reference, it's better practice to start your own topic than to reply to one when you want help/opinions.
