Solution
always use a pci-e card if you need to. The board is expensive (or perhaps that's an NZ issue?) That case can take 12 if you convert the 3x5.25 into 4x3.5 which is something that I wish I'd considered.

not without spending a lot more we only need that many anyway, ssd on one and we only have like 4 drives so anymore than 6 is overkill.

pcie to sata? is there any need 6 sata ports should be fine? after 6 anymore get quite expensive. the next board with more than 7 is a 500 dollar motherboard not worth spending the extra cash

anything decent used ram mb is dodgy cause it may break. why gpu the cpu has intergrated don't need anything more

As in a sata pci-e card, cheap and will give you a shed load more, yes you've got 10TB, what happens when it's full, or you want to add more as a backup. So yes stick with the board you have, consider this when you need it.

I would buy the i5 6500 personally. So i can save some money. IMO 0.1GHz base clock is not worth that much extra money.
Also that power supply is not that great in terms of performance. I would get a EVGA G2 or P2.

Yeah sounds like a plan, don't think we would need more tham 6 sata slots and we can always get five 4 tb drives :p

is the rest good like ram etc?

The ram and cpu can break only by physically damaging them (assuming the cpu is locked). I built something like this myself and I bought a used gpu for about $30 because I use it for playback as well. It's still better than integrated graphics.
And that psu is somewhat overkill if you don't plan to add a demanding graphics card. 400-450w should be more than enough. Just make sure it's good quality.

Okay just easier to buy new tbh. the only thing we would do on it would be serving files etc. hardly would use it via as a desktop part from changing settings. Minecraft will be fine running on it anyways. If it doesn't work or something I can use my old 9600 gt for it.

What power supply would you recommend then via nz price spy?

Platinum is the efficiency rating, not quality. EVGA G2 is gold rated, P2 is platinum rated. Both of them are higher quality power supply then the Silverstone strider series.
Silverstone Strider 750W review 8.1/10 from JohnyGuru. Look at the performance score which is 7.5/10 in this unit.
EVGA P2 650W review 9.8/10 from JohnyGuru
EVGA G2 550W review 10/10 from JohnyGuru

You can get away with a EVGA G2 550W.
Your power consumption will be like
CPU - 65 Watts
10 SATA HDD - 21*10 = 210 Watts (Maximum possible load)
1 SSD - 2.5 Watts
Case Fans - about 2-3 watts each.
Total - about 320 watts max under load.
Only problem is that G2 550W has 9 sata power cable. So you have buy a Molex to SATA or floppy to SATA or SATA splitter to get power to your 11 SATA drives.

That quad-core is more than capable of handling file storage and web server duties. And it's an elegans solution for such an application.
However, if you want more processing power:

As for the SSD, no use in spending more.
And ram speed is inconsequential.

Too many choices now :(. Ill look into it and see. I want a decent ssd that can operate 24/7 as this server will be on 24/7 and web serving most of it and running as a backup server and storing all our videos photos etc on it. We use our tv to play back videos too so need decent speed for that.
