Your RAM limit will vary with the memory capacity of your GPU which you didn't list. You're OS can adress 4GB, then add your VRAM to that. So 5GB for 1GB video card, and 6GB for 2 GB video card. Some older computers can be fussy about which RAM chips they accept. They may only be able to adress modules with small chips on both sides, and not newer ones with fewer high cpacity chips. If you have an old 256mb, or 512mb GPU then it can run inthe 4GB OS memory. There could be a mismatch in the timing needed by your old and new memory modules also. Even the same speed memory can have different timing needs.
