Sell 980 ti for $380 (Half what I paid) and get a 1080?

I plan to game at tripple 1440p.

on the other hand, the i could add another 980 ti when the price drops a bit, but 2gb per 1440p monitor seems like it would be pushing it. I may just get the 1080, stick with single 1440p, add a add a second 1080 later when i purchase the screens.

what would you do? having a hard time deciding what my best route is.

two 980 tis will work then if you dont need max settings
under these circumstances i would wait and get a 1080 ti which could (maybe) be as fast as a 980 ti sli

At that selling price I don't think it's worth it at all. If you look at the benchmarks out there, in most AAA games there is only maybe an average of 20 fps difference between the 980 Ti and 1080. Sometimes only a difference of 8-10 fps. Considering that you would need to spend another $220-$320 to get a 1080, I don't think it's worth the hassle.

I'd be more tempted in your situation to SLI the 980 Ti when pricing comes down a little, or wait another 6-9 months and get a 1080 Ti.

As you mentioned, you could just do the single monitor for the time being. I think it'd be better to wait it out for the 1080 Ti. Not that it's confirmed, but I'd expect it to have 12 GB of VRAM and it should be a considerable step from the 980 Ti as opposed to the 1080.
