Hi all,
In need of some help if possible. I have read a number of threads on the forum but each one i try has not worked. (not sure if it has made matter worse).

I have a Samsung M3 Slimline 1 TB USB 3.0. Yesterday I dropped it on the floor from the couch and since then it will not show up under my computer but it is showing up on my devices.

Looking at the threads one suggested looking at computer management and maybe adding in a partition. But when I got there it tells me that disk 2 is unknown and 'not initialized'.

When i try to initialize it, it brings up 2 options... MBR and GPT. If i choose MBR i either get the doughnut of doom and my HD light flashes and then get the message that the request failed due to a fatal hardware error or just the fatal hardware message.
If i chose GPT it tells me that the specified disk is not convertible because the disk size is less than the minimum size required for GPT disks

I have got enough power to it as one post suggested that could be the problem.
I have also changed the letter of my drive but not sure if that hes helped or made things worse.

The hard drive does make a beep noise when I first connect it and the blue light is on.
I have tried to eject the disk, nothing happened.
I have tried to update my drivers and it tells me they are all uptodate.

Anyone got any ideas please on what I can try next?

Thanks
Abi

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, Abi!

This seems pretty concerning! :( Unfortunately, dropping the external on the floor most probably has caused some physical hardware damage on it that cannot be fixed! Mechanical hard drives are very sensitive. I hope you have backed up the data that was on it somewhere else as well, because you might have lost it. If you want to retrieve the files, you should definitely get in touch with a professional data recovery company.

Meanwhile, another thing you could try is running the HDD manufacturer's brand-specific diagnostic tool and see what is the health and SMART status of the drive (you can check some third-party utility suggestions here as well). However, the clicking sounds are not a good sign...

However, the clicking sounds are not a good sign either. I'd strongly recommend you consider replacing the external drive.

Good luck! Let me know if you have more questions, though.
