Could my psu damage my gpu?

Dear community

I had a radeon r9 graphics card that wasn´t working properly (in other systems too), and i therefore i sent it to where i bought it from to get it changed. It was pretty new so i don´t know why it didn´t work, but i was thinking that my psu might have damaged my gpu? My psu is a Chieftec GPA-500S8.

It could most certainty damage the gpu and the rest of your computer if it let a surge through but that would likely outright kill it not just cause problems. That psu is 350watts I know of no R9 gpu that will run on 350watts. What R9 card do you have there are a few?

My friend, you PSU have only 350W and this GPU need a 500w PSU.

for sure this is the problem, you PSU cant handle your GPU.

What model is your GPU?

(your PSU still pretty bad for that.)

R9 270X minimum requirement for PSU is 500w.

you need a better one.

Yeah you need more power, I would highly recommend you stop using that card with that psu its not enough power and its pretty low quality. AMD recommends 500watts for the 270x. Does that psu even have the pcie connectors the 270x needs?

i was in a hurry when i was writing this so i see now that i have written the wrong model... it is a 500S8 not a 350S8..
sorry....
so i´m pretty sure that it delivers enough power. One more thing to say is that it isn´t totally dead, it just crashes, even in google chrome, and if wasn´t the psu that damaged the gpu, what did then? it was working fine before...

It may have the proper wattage (barely), but that's still a poor quality psu. I would see if you can borrow a different power supply from a more reputable company and see if that helps.

my gpu is already sent to the place where i bought it from, and i know that it isn´t working right. My question is if it could be the reason for my gpu crashing (in other systems with much stronger psus too)and what else things could damage my gpu?

"Lack of wattage" is never encountered with computer power supplies. That is why we have over power protection, because power supplies know no limits, they do what is demanded of them. They usually burn, shut off, or have super unstable voltage outputs long before any physical limitation, if existent, would cause the power to reach an upper limit.

Voltage is all you have to worry about.

Think of it this way: if power supplies can run out of power, or hit an upper peak, why would we even have over power protection, because there would never be an over power situation. It's because power supplies don't run out of power. It would sure be lovely if manufactures could save money by cutting out OCP or OPP, but they have to be there since power supplies know no limits.
