Hello everyone,

Ive been researching and putting my list together for my first build and would like to know if there's anything I've missed, Anything overkill etc

I'm trying to keep my budget below £1400.

The PC will be used for mostly photo editing, 1080p gaming and a little bit of video and music editing.

I would also like to try overclocking sometime in the future.

I already have a keyboard, mouse powerline adapter and external storage.

It is possible that I'll want to crossfire in the future but i probably wouldn't be able to afford any upgrades until around Christmas this year or early 2017.

Would it make more sense to upgrade the PSU now or keep the one you added and sell it when I upgrade?

At the moment I'm mainly just wanting to play the latest Doom, the latest Sims and some old titles - Quake 2, Half-life and Tomb raider revelations
I haven't actually had a pc for a few years and I'm not up to date on current game requirements.

Photo editing is my first priority so if I can get by on medium settings for some newer titles I'll be happy for a while.

I'm quite confident for when it comes to the build but that may change nearer the time, which will be in 3 or 4 weeks time hopefully.

If you're looking for an air cooled setup, you picked a really good one to go with. The one downside to the NH-D15 however is its frickin huge. So if you go with the G.Skill Ripjaws V Series RAM, you'll need to adjust your fan up 10mm to get clearance for it. That'll put your cooler to a height of 175mm. Luckily the case you picked out has 180mm clearance, but it is something to keep in mind when building up.

If you wanted to go water cooling, the Cryorig A80 like SuperNinja listed is a good choice, as would be the Nzxt Kraken X61. They're about on par with each other but the X61 has LED's (if that matters to you) and the A80 has a fan that will help cool the VRMs and anything else around the CPU socket.

If you don't want to deal with getting crazy with OCing, you could just go for a single fan cooler. The Cryorig H7 is a great cooler that will give moderate OCing. And the Cryorig H5 universal is better still. Both coolers will not overlap any RAM slots so you don't have to muss with the fan height settings.
Now if you don't want to get hard core in to overclocking

My main reason for choosing the Noctua cooler was the low dB rating, I'm looking to keep the system as quiet as possible, although I do except some noise obviously.

However, I'm looking for minimal build hassles and although I'm confident I can put it all together, I don't think I will be wanting to move things around and make alterations to make everything fit if it's a tight squeeze, ie, the Noctua cooler.

So yes I may go for the water cooled option and I won't say no to more leds!

Edit: I won't be going for crazy OC'ing, Probably just a little bit.

2nd edit: So I'm going to need a total of 6 fans for the case, I'm looking for maximum effect so shall I go will all led fans or just the rear?

With the Noctua, you're putting it all together anyway, so adjusting the fan 10mm just means clipping it a bit higher than you would normally. Not a big deal, but rather something to be aware of when buying the thing.

As for the LED's, if you wanna go nuts, then rock on. I'd look in to ones with RGB led's if you want multi color, or maybe even LED lighting for the case if you want to go beyond fans(NZXT has a system thats supposed to be good). Just make sure you look at the fans dB rating as well as the CFM rating of the fan to find a good balance.

If you go water cooling, you'll only really need to buy one extra fan (LED bling idea aside). The water cooling (assuming you go with a large radiator) will have two, the case comes with a 140mm in the rear and one is already up front, so you just need a second 140mm to match the front. You can put a 140mm on the side and two on the bottom but unless you're living in a desert I don't think you'd honestly need that much airflow plus it just increases noise. If you do go with the Noctua, I don't think you'd be able to put one on the side. Plus fans on the side of cases is always a pain in the ass to work around.

Alright thanks to both of you so far.

No I don't particularly need to go crazy with the leds, I'd just like to see a bit of colour through the window really and I can always add some leds later.
Im liking the Nzxt Kraken X61, so if I only need one more fan up front there's probably no point in getting an led fan in that particular case.

I live in Scotland by the way so no.. the opposite of desert haha.

Will I still need a fan controller and if so could you guys recommend me one and also a cheap but quiet single fan?

Thanks

I completely overlooked the fans because I saw the case came with a couple and I assumed that would be enough.

Edit: ok here's how she looks with 1 extra case fan but with no fan controller

To be honest, you can use one intake in the front and one exhaust in the rear if you want to. Going with two in the front is not a bad thing of course, just throwing that out there.

As for a fan controller, you have one built in to the case. So right off you have some hardware control. You could go with a 3rd party hardware one, but honestly since you have 4 fan headers on the motherboard I'd just go with that. You can set up custom settings in bios, and the AI Suite that comes with Asus motherboards usually has fan software in it. If you're not getting enough control, then I'd look in to 3rd party controllers. Since your 5.25 bays sit behind the door, getting a cool looking control setup will lose some impact since you wont see it except when you go to specifically tweak it.

Speaking of the 5.25 bays, while you can put the X61 in the top mount of the R5 without having to remove the 5.25 bays, the cooler will fit pretty flush against the bays. You may not be able to put the optical drive in with it configured like that.

Thanks very much Azaran and sorry for the delay, I'm having internet problems but that's another story!
I will hopefully have the build started soon and will be back with the results hoping all goes well.

Cheers!
