Could I use just the backplate of this waterblock for support and aesthetics of a GTX Titan X?

I'm building my first, and likely last, PC from scratch, which involves the Titan X. So, I could buy the standard EVGA backplate - it's pretty much plan A:

- it has the advantage of being made from aluminum.

The Watercool Heatkiller IV backplate, which would presumably provide support, protect the naked and unsightly PCB, provide ventilation aplenty, and look CAF to boot - is made of stainless steel, which last I checked, is not as light as aluminum; its weight could end up damaging the card and/or the MB - if it would even work as a backplate sans the rest of its waterblock assembly.

Both plates cost around $30. I'm not interested in watercooling this rig, which is to be used for 3D modeling, 3D still rendering, Photoshop and gaming (hence needing the Titan X).

Other than this, the only option is to wait and overpay for the GTX1080 'Founder's Edition', or wait even longer for the eventual partners release, or even the 1080ti. It won't do everything that I need it to do better than the Titan X, but at least the heat won't be such an issue - and I'm fairly sure it ships with a backplate =]

I'm having trouble linking to a pic of the Heatkiller backplate alone, so it shows the whole assembly instead.

While that backplate should work, it wouldnt work as well as the EVGA.
If you look, only 5 of the 9 screws actually go into the PCB, the other 4 are around the GPU for the waterblock. Only the top and rear edges of the card will have support, and while this would help, its not as much support as it would be attached to the top edge.

Yours may be the best answer. However, I just looked at pics of the EVGA backplate installed and only the holes that have silver edges are actually attach points - the 4 around the GPU (heatsink? That X thing) are for those 4 hex screwheads to poke through - so it has 8 connection points. The Heatkiller has 9 points of direct connection...I think.

there was a better pic, but it was HUGE.
