Hi, tech experts.

I have a ASUS HD 7850-DC2-2GD5-V2. I have 2 problems:

1. Naturally there are 2 DVI ports on the back of the GPU (DVI-I and DVI-D) only the DVI-I port works, the other shows no signal.

2. While using it if I overuse it (compared to itself) it eventually shows a corrupted display resulting in either: blue, white or red vertical lines or just a plain black screen, regardless this is probably the result of the GPU crashing, but for what reason I have absolutely no idea please help.

P.S all drivers all default it is recently refurbished without any accessories.

Thanks to all in advance, check sig for rig.

Thanks for the reply, before the 7850 I had a ASUS 2gb HD 7770 which had the same porting however on that one DVI-D worked perfectly well. Maybe some circuits leading to digital got fried?

Temps were 41-43 deg Celsius while watching Shrek on Windows media player, crashed after he met donkey, the same thing happens when I play Warcraft 3, or open and close files quickly for that matter. I havent gone OC mode yet, just put the fresh GPU in. Is it possible it happens because of old drivers? I haven't updated anything. Driver problem is my speculation. Btw after the crash sound also stops/corrupts a little later.
The only thing that heats up a fair bit is my CPU.

Hmm... that's quite strange. I don't think the circuits fried, that's a bit rare, probably there is some broken connection in the port itself.

I have seen some crashing video cards, I end up throwing them in the bin or try for RMA. I don't think a driver update will help. If it's not overheating then I'd suspect for bad components, which means the GPU is defective. You might, however, try to update and see if it helps.

Few things, you said it's a refurb unit, which means it's used, which means it was returned, which means it may not be fully working.

Second, you have a VS power supply, that is not a very good one, maybe a power supply issue.

Test the card with another system with a good power supply. If it does the same thing there, bad card. If it does not, test your system with a better power supply. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

There seems to be a very unnecessary hate on VS-series PSUs, they're just not good, or to be exact not as good as some of the more expensive ones. The failing rate is not that bad compared to other PSUs. Could happen to any PSUs.

The issue you're talking about is almost always a GPU issue (by experience).

Thanks for your help all, I will try the GPU on another PC and get back. I used to have a HD 7770 2GB that stopped working so I got that RMAd and got the HD 7850 back instead, and please no fighting.

P.S. I've heard the VS series are not that good however it hasn't ever failed me :) I'm positive it's a GPU issue.

(--1 hour later--)

Ok so I just updated all the drivers to Crimson Edition Hotfix 16.5.2.1. Now right after I type my password in Windows 7 x64 log in the screen goes blank black, instead of the blue, red or white vertical lines after some use.

Also the PC works perfectly fine on SAFE MODE (limited but fine).

It could be a PSU issue, but the power requirements when going from the 7770 to 7850 is not that different. The chance of it's a PSU issue is very small, these cheap VS units are actually pretty good for its price, reliability and chance of it being bad are just as other PSUs. So with that being said, it's a GPU issue, probably it's a 95% chance. If the 7770 works on your PC it's probably going to be 99%.

Hi again, so... I went and got even my 7850 exchanged and they sent me a brand new ASUS HD 7970 lucky me:) The 7970 works fine in Windows desktop surfing net watching movies music etc. But NOT in games after I startup Watchdogs or any graphically intense game for that matter THE SAME DISPLAY CRASH/CORRUPTION HAPPENS!!
Not on Warcraft 3 though, I really dont know why AMD is doing this but they better fix this funny business I've found countless people with similar problems and all the solutions just lead to RMA which is a spoilt solution. I am grateful for the 7970 replacement.

I have absolutely no leads on the problem whatsoever other than if it's being used its gonna crash...

It's not funny business with AMD, you just have a bad card. Warcraft 3 does not use much video card power at all, and it may never get to some of the functions of the card, where the silicon may have failed. As I said, you got a used card, which means there was some reason for the original owner to return it, and the testing they did may not have been that good. Happens with some refurb units, someone just tossed it back in the box maybe, or just made sure it ran OK in basic tasks.
