I heard that sometimes you need a fan splitter to connect more fans to your motherboard. Is that true in my build?

It all depends if your using the fans in you build as additional fans for the case or if your replacing the fans in your case. The MB has one CPU fan header/CPU OPT for the Corsair H100i and has an additional 4 Chassis fan headers for your case fans. If your just using the Corsair QE fans inplace of the Fractal case fans then you should be all set but if your adding them in addition then you will need two fan splitters.

I have recently been looking into the subject of fans and so on and this experience on the matter.

I bought an Obsidian 750D windowed full tower recently so to move my build out of its current stuffy mid tower case. The case came with two front Corsair SP140mm and one back SP140mm. The case then has room for two 140mm on top or three 120mm then two 120mm at the bottom.

My motherboard has a CPU_FAN 1 for the CPU fan and a CPU_FAN 2 for the exhaust chassis fan. Then I have two CHA_FAN headers for my case fans. I plugged in my two top fans and my front with a fan splitter each as I could not install the bottom one due to lack of a header. When I turned on the pc it sounded like a jet engine pretty much.

So I have opted for a FAN control hub which is installed where the optical drives are. It can have up to 5 fans plugged into that hub and so I have plugged in

-2x120mm Noctua Redux 700rpm top Exhaust
-1x120mm Noctua Redux 700rpm bottom intake
-2xSP140mm Corsair front intake

The 1xSP140mm Corsair back exhaust is plugged into the CPU_FAN 2 header by the way.

After adjusting my chassis fans to a decent fan speed via the fan control hub for the best air flow and quiet noise level I still found my pc was still noisy but that it was coming from the back fan and cooler fan.

So I went into the BIOS and manually set the CPU_FAN 1 & 2 headers fan speed for each temps so now the fans are not working so hard when they don't need to (CPU goes to max 45C at load which is great)

I will be replacing the SP140mm fans in the future as they rattle sometimes due to their cheap build quality but all in all my pc is cooler and quieter now compared to the stuffy mid tower I use to have.

This is my experience with fans.
