Hello! I am currently dissatisfied with my performance and would really like to overclock my FX6300, I'm currently trying to play DOOM but the stuttering is vastly hindering the experience.

My main concern is whether my PSU will be enough to support the overlock

AMD FX-6300 Six Core CPU (3.50GHz/8MB CACHE/AM3+)

ASUS® M5A97 R2.0 (DDR3, USB3.0, 6Gb/s)

8GB HyperX FURY DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB)

2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 950 - 2 x DVI, HDMI, DP

CORSAIR 450W VS SERIES™ VS-450 POWER SUPPLY

Coolermaster K350 Case

My current cooler for the FX6300 is the TX3 EVO, will that also be sufficient? Thank you

I would guess that yes, you have some power to spare. You have a 95w CPU and a 90w GPU, so I doubt your entire system will draw more than maybe 250w under load. The VS is not the best power supply, but it should be fine for mild to moderate overclocking.

However, don't expect to get a ton of performance. At stock, your CPU should turbo to 4.1ghz, and you might expect ~4.6ghz with an inexpensive aftermarket cooler, which is only 12%. If you're getting 30fps, a 12% improvement is only 3.5fps. By comparison, an Intel Core i3 may be 50-75% faster.

Go ahead and overclock, but I recommend against dumping a bunch of money in overclocking gear, because the ROI is not very good.

For Doom you GPU is ready to party but your CPU is not, it recommends a minimum of an 8 core AMD.

You should be able to crank up a bit of an overclock on that motherboard, but other than running Doom at the bare minimums I don't see you getting that much more performance out of it.

Now that PSU, well it should be good enough as the GTX 950 is not a high power card, and the VS isn't as bad as the CX. That said a better one may help, but IMO not enough to make it worth it.

I agree with Ecky, I would not throw money at this problem, unless that money is thrown at rebuilding the system with a new motherboard/processor.

I just configured a 4.3ghz OC and my temps dont seem to be rising above 40 much, should I be relatively in the clear. I'm stress testing at the moment and it appears to be performing slightly better

Try downloading MSI Afterburner, enable the overlays and make sure frame rate | gpu temp | cpu temp | gpu usage are all checked and come back with data: When your frame rate went down your GPU usage did the same? What was the maximum GPU temp and most of the time the GPU usage is where? (60%/90%...)?
