Hi to all.
Right now I own a Sharkoon Xtatic SR Headset which supports 5.1 DTS, PRoLogic and others, and it connects via optical cable to consoles and pc. My issue with the PC is that until now, I realized that mobos usually doesn't support 5.1 by the optical output. So my question basically is what should I get:

1.- SoundCard like Sound Blaster Z
2.- Another USB gaming headset just for the PC

In terms of sound quality which of both options is the best?
I have a home theater so I may be abble to use a few times the soundcard to play without headphones or to watch a movie in 5.1, so in my case that's a pro over the headset, but this is not really too critical for me. My main concern is what is better for PC gaming and audio quality.

Thanks a lot

A USB gaming headsets have one goal: To put a cheap pair of headphones combined with a cheap microphone with a cheap sound processor for the cheapest possible price, while making it look cool and feel comfortable, then labeling it as "gaming". But what these companies don't realize though (except for the few companies that make good quality headsets) is that a clear microphone and especially clear sound can be almost as good as good graphics, like for example having quality sound so you can pick out where shots are being fired from, or to pick out where those god damn zombies are (specifically minecraft and Unturned). For microphones, if you have a cheap one on a headset, it's gonna be pretty hard to hear you if you're voice chatting on...

Applying this to your situation, if you don't want or need better quality sound (input and output), then get the USB gaming headset and save money. Otherwise, get a good pair of headphones, the sound card, and, if you want to voice chat, a separate microphone. This will guarantee best performance in games.

So, since Im also a composer and have my studio headphones for listening tracks, mixing, etc etc, it would be better to have the Soundblaster Z with those headphones via 3.5mm for gaming??
Thanks
