Hi everyone,

I have been researching a lot and have not found an issue similar to mine. I hope you can help me out with this.

Main specs:
Mobo: MSI z170i gaming pro
CPU: i5 6600k

other:
RAM: Corsair vengeance 2x8Gb DDR4 2400MHz
Cooler: Noctua d14
GPU: Asus GTX970 Strix
PSU: Seasonic 650 W gold
Case: Fractal node 304

I am not getting a stable OC. Anything higher than stock leads to issues.

On my first attempts, I was seeing CPU clock throttling during stress tests and benchmarks. I was able to fix this by setting iccmax to 256A (instead of auto) and turbo boost powers to 200 W (also instead of auto).

With the latter issue solved, I am able to perform stress tests and benchmarks without throttling or errors with all cores working at top speed and 100% utilization (according to hwmonitor). Nonetheless (here comes the big issue):

- Benchmark results (for instance Cinebench or iXTU) are very poor, lower that stock (about half the score achieved with stock clock). I also notice poor performance in other OS software. Temperatures are always fine (below 60ºC).

This happens, for instance, with clock at 4.4 GHz and Vcore 1,28. No matter how much I increase voltage or cache clock, this always happens. I have tried enabling/disabling several parameters such as turbo/eist/c1e, setting voltage to adaptative/override and or/ setting cpu ratio mode to fixed/dynamic. What am I missing here??!

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Best,
José

What stress tests are you using, and how long are you running them for?

At 4.4 GHz, what was the highest vcore that you tried?

So you say that anything higher than stock leads to issues. What frequency and vcore combinations did you use?

Hi ihog,

I actually started on 4.3 GHz at 1.24 V (lowest voltage with no errors on prime 95 small fft for 20 min) up to 4,6 GHz at 1,39 (20 min on the same test). One of the interim setting was that mentioned (4.4 at 1.28, I am aiming at this speed for 24/7).

The tests were basically prime 95 for 20 min and the benchmarks themselves (xtu and cinebench). The tests complete with no errors, full speed, no Throttling, no overheating, 100% utilization, but the actual performance is lower! I cannot figure out why!
