Hello. For what kind of daily laptop usage would the Intel Celeron N3050 (1,66 gHz, turbo 2,16 gHz) with 6 GB of RAM run smoothly without any major lag (Is it fine for e.g text processing and basic online surfing). For how long into the future would you estimate that the N3050 CPU would be preforming in a OK standard without major lag on basic daily tasks?

Thanks!!

I do not know if it helps but I have build little Plex Media servers using this box but with the Celeron J1900

Now we have the N3050, reviews I have seen expressed some disappointment as these ulta low power chips do not overclock

The N3050 is two core compared to four core of J1900 using less power the battery of a laptop should last longer

If you look at the tests on CPU boss it shows some differences in GPU performance where J1900 is better, tghe N3050 does do better in CompuBench but in GeekBench (both single core tests) the J1900 is better.

In the old days you could expect 18m to 3 years before software made Laptop unusable but is different now.

I am using a Laptop that is 8 years old, If I Install win7 on it fresh with 2gb of ram it is fine, but add the Windows updates and it is unusable without at least 4gb and I have 8GB to make it able to keep up.

So ram may be your biggest concern, as well as tuning windows, getting rid of bloatware, using a basic account (keeping Admin Account for Admin tasks only), get rid of commercial AV software and grab V1.75 of Malwarebyes free, also install Micosoft security essentials but disable real time scan. If you download files then scan them manually

Working this way will make your laptop last 10 years, avoid Win10 which is at best a marketing platform and at worst spyware.

The most important bloatware to get rid of are "updates" that sit in system tray, disable them all, disable the services that call them and disable the Tasks in Task Scheduler that call them. I include Google Chrome in this list, upgrade when you want or need to, these programs act a lot like malware and it is not worth it.

Do not consent to data being sent to software vendors, why the hell would you want to waste your CPU and Lan speed giving them your data. Whether it be Firefox or Windows itself, just say no.

Do not install any toolbars or any other programs you are offered to be installed with other software (e.g. AV or Google with Flash, SearchmeToolbar with PDF Creator and others), it is all going to slow your Laptop down or with the latter screw up your system..
