Greetings everyone,

Im trying to overclock my Q9550 with google's help since i don't know how to do it
and something is failing my overclock i believe its either that my ram is getting overclocked to high or my voltages are to low and i dont know how to either properly increase volts or stop clocking my ram seperate by my cpu here are some pics

Mobo: p5kpl/1600
RAM: 667hz

I would really appreciate any help

Set CPU Ratio Setting to 'Manual' or the multiplier you want it to (But its max is x8.5 and according to the pictures its already x8.5...) and in CPU VCore over voltage you can set the voltage you want it at.
It kinda looks like your processor is already in its max speed so I don't know if you can still overclock it, good luck.

Good tutorial for beginners:

It doesn't look like too much but +150mv is something pretty high to use even if you overclock the processor alot.
Anyway, try resetting BIOS settings and starting from zero: Set to manual ratio and put there 6.0 and leave the voltage unchanged then try booting into windows, check your CPU frequency, try using Prime95 to test it, if it passes do the same thing but this time increase manual ratio by 0.5 and keep doing this sequence until you can't boot or Prime95 fail to pass a test. From there you have 2 options:

- Set the BIOS settings to the last one working.
- Increase voltage (By +50mv maybe?) and checking if CPU will boot/pass Prime again.

Well, just a thing, a newer processor even without overclocking will show more performance than overclocking your current CPU which is pretty much in a dead socket, according to Passmark your processor single thread & multi-threaded performance is worse than an i3.

As you said, with the Core2, only the extreme editions allowed for changing the multiplier. The Q9550 has a locked multiplier (8.5). It can only be lowered.

The only way to overclock is to bump up the speed up the FSB. Set it to manual and try raising it above 333.

Edit: actually if you only have ddr2 667 ram you're already running at your ram's max speed (333x2). You can try unlocking the dram setting to keep it at 333 (x2) and only overclock the CPU, but a 1:1 ratio between ram and cpu provides the best performance.

This guide should have all of the information you need regarding overclocking your core2quad: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/259899-29-core-overclocking-guide

Tried that i went my cpu from 2.8 to 3.4 with overclocking 15% on profile and 667 setting on memory
the overclocking worked i runned a prime 95 test and it passed but google chrome was crashing non stop same as every other program or game

Sounds like an unstable overclock. It probably needs more voltage to run at 400 fsb. Try manually setting the cpu frequency to 350 and see if it's stable. If that works, bump it up a little bit more.

Either that or bump up the vcore overvolt a tiny bit until it's stable. How are your temps when running prime95?

Using an aftermarket cooler on low FFT stress on prime 95 for maximum heat possible i get no more than 50ish temps on max load and 40ish on idle also im only allowed to increase max vcore voltage +150mv thats so little or what?
