So someone I know is selling parts of this workstation for a bargain. An i7 4470, 16GB DDR3 RAM and some other parts, but I'm interested in buying these two. Anyone know what RAM this is? GSkill or what? And do they look like the generic green RAM because that would suck :p The processor is still cool I hope, no hidden strings attached?

The RAM is likely fairly generic - it'll be branded, for sure, but HPl have many 'volume' agreements with providers. Unlikely to be the same 'brand' of RAM in all. Chances are 99.99% it's going to be the generic-looking, green RAM modules.

It's a functional workstation, it's not designed/intended to be looked at.

The CPU is still fine - it's a locked CPU though, so keep that in mind.. The only i7 I can find listed for the Z230 spec is the 4790 though, not the 4470 so double-check (slightly higher base clock & turbo with the 4790 but otherwise, no real difference). Might simply be a model of the Z230 that's been replaced though.

As an FYI, a lot of Dell workstations use proprietary motherboards and sometimes PSUs, so upgrading...

Yea, I'm planning on getting just the CPU and RAM (only if its not that generic naked green black thing) from him. The rest I can just buy from elsewhere and assemble it myself. Thanks for the help :)

As for 4770 vs 4790 I'm okay with anything really. Locked is also fine as I can save some money and hopefully get one of the higher clocked versions of the GTX 1070.
