Hey everyone,

Tl;dr: Computer display stopped working suddenly, switched mobo, now igpu works but not gpu (fans spin, leds on, not detected by Windows or bios).

Specs:
CPU - i7-4770
GPU - Asus Strix 980
Ram - Kingston Hyper x 16gb
Mobo - Gigabyte h97m (previous one was Asus h87m)
PSU - Zalman Goldrock 650w

So here's everything that happened so far. My pc has been working with no problems for the past 2ish years. All of a sudden, after working fine in the morning, I was getting DNS errors and couldn't connect to the internet at all. I tried to restart to see if it would fix it, it did not, tried to restart again, and then suddenly I was stuck on black screen. Everything started up, fans, LEDs, monitor would at least "catch" and detect the GPU, but no display.

I tried basic troubleshooting, reseating components, restarting, and all of a sudden, then the monitor wouldn't even catch with the gpu anymore. It would still catch with the igpu when I switched to it, but still black screen.

So I switched to a new mobo. Now the iGPU works no problem, but the GPU still doesn't work, doesn't "catch", isn't detected at all. I tried reinstalling Nvidia drivers but it won't let me at all since it says "No compatible hardware detected."

My initial thought was that it had to be the mobo since I was getting the DNS error and then the problems started, plus the igpu wasn't working also. But now that the igpu works and my gpu is not being detected, could it be the PSU? Everything is plugged in double, triple checked, tried with one Ram, etc. Other my GPU having suddenly died, I don't know what the problem could be, as it was literally working 5 minutes before the issues started.

At one point during my trouble shooting, I did touch the mobo with a screwdriver while it was on (stupid i know) which caused the pc to shut down, but seemed to start up ok after that.

Apologies for the long post, trying to be as detailed as possible. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Solution
Your GPU has 3 yrs limited warranty period. You may try this https://www.asus.com/entry.htm after make the choice, go to the RMA section to fill the RMA submittal form online. But I don't know what exactly for yoour case, becasue you bought the GPU over here.
Or you may contact the ASUS.
1) Do you test the gtx980 in other PC? it maybe dead, because it does not work on the new MB too, but the iGPU works fine.
2) Using the onboard iGPU, boot into the BIOS to check the +3.3V, +5V, and +12V.
3) You said: I did touch the mobo with a screwdriver while it was on. That happens before you got the new MB? or after?

Yes, you're right, unfortunately the gpu died somehow :( Not sure what happened as it was working fine up until the point it my pc got messed up.

Looks like I need to look into an RMA now. Not sure if you know about the RMA process well, maybe you can help me out? I bought the card in the US from Amazon Warehouse about a year and half ago, so first of all I'm not sure if I'm covered by ASUS warranty, although I have the invoice. I also now live outside of the US, but their RMA form only allows for shipping addresses within the US. Do you know what the process would be for me to start an RMA?
