I've recently run into a decision. Do I keep my AMD Athlon 860K or switch to my A8 5600K. So I came here to ask your opinion. Now of course I plan on upgrading in the future but I happen to have these two laying around.

Side question: around what temperatures should i expect from the Corsair's H100i GTX with the 860k. I idle around 50 and under load it doesn't go above 70. My ambient temp isn't high but I'm not sure how much that affects it

Side note: My gpu is an nvidia GTX 770

The Athlon is the better CPU, and since you don't need integrated graphics, there is no reason to switch it out.

As for your temperatures, your idle is high, and I think your load temperature is a bit high as AMD tends to have a lower safe temperature limit around 62 celsius. Try checking your temperature with AMD overdrive, other programs don't interact as well with AMD's thermal detection and can cause false readings. If your temps are too high, you might want to double check the mounting and thermal paste application on your cooler.

I've always assumed it was high. Mind explaining to me how to read and Overdrive's thermal margin? I've never understood it. Idle, it reads about 60-70°C in AMD OverDrive

You should give yourself at least a few degrees of wiggle room, just in case your ambient room temperature goes up and makes it that much harder to cool the CPU. Other than that, go as high as you can comfortably get within the voltage and thermal limitations of your CPU.

Sorry for all the follow ups. I have been using, HWMonitor, but just to be clear, I should trust AMD OverDrive more, right?

Also, if anyone would be able to get in contact with me tomorrow and help me out with overclocking, that would be great. Every time I've tried, I've blue screened (due to voltage I think). The most success I've had is 4.2 ghz
