Hello everybody,

I'm building a new Pc config with the mentioned ASUS z170-K mobo. I'd like to reach 32Gb RAM with the highest possible clock.

I've checked the official mobo specifications here:
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/Z170-K/Z170-K_Memory_report.pdf?_ga=1.244082883.754179054.1463655486

1.
My problem that it's just generally confusing to me. There are rows like this:
CORSAIR CMD128GX4M8A2666C15 128GB (16GB*8 )

But... this motherboard doesn't support 128GB as I know but and it has only 4 dimms! How could we put 8 into it then? :/

Please help me out with an explanation.

2.
I'd like to install only 16GB at this moment using only one RAM pair. (2x(GB) Because I'm not sure that I will use more than this... but I'm sure that after 4-5 years I will increase this number. (I will use the Pc as a vsti audio and graphic workstation)

But in this list I can't see any possible way to install RAM like this on a higher clock frequency than the normal 2133. Is it really impossible? I've checked other z170 mobos and the they aren't significantly better in this question.

I'm just really not sure because this document is kinda confusing to me and at some parts there are even duplicated ram lines with different specs... I'm not sure if this document is just wrong at some lines or my understending is bad.

Thanks for any replies! :)

Solution
Good approach to get the 32GB now as there are no guarantees if you get 16GB now and another 16GB later - even if they are the same exact model

Hi! Thanks for your reply! It's going to be an i7-6700K. At this moment I'm thinking to get these:
https://ipon.hu/webshop/product/hyperx_32gb_fury_ddr4_2666mhz_cl15_kit_hx426c15fbk4_32/949295

(these are on the supported stuffs list)

because after reading this:
http://www.legitreviews.com/ddr4-memory-scaling-intel-z170-finding-the-best-ddr4-memory-kit-speed_170340/3

I think that the higher clocks couldn't be a good investment. But still my two questions are viable, I'm still curious!

By the way do you agree with this RAM article?

If all you do is primarily single tasking, then 2400/2666 is fine. If you multitask I'd definitely go higher. I'm running 3200 sticks and when I stick 2400 in there I can tell it's slowed down. Games are utilizing DRAM better also and can see better performance in some with faster DRAM, i.e. Fallout 4

I use various applications with multi thread support. For exeample the Sonar Daw (a studio program) or Adobe AfterEffects, Photoshop. I will play some games, but the PC will be used as a workstation primarily.

Unfortunately the prices go up fast with the clock numbers. I would buy faster RAM if I was sure that I can upgrade to 32GB from 16GB later, because I'm not sure that I really need that 32GB at this very moment, but later I guess I will. My initial problem is that I cannot see any promises on the given asus z170-k mobo ram reports.
That's why I'm thinking now to buy those 2666 modules (32GB) because this way I'm sure that I won't have the expansion problems later, and these moduls are still not so expensive.

Seeing those datas behind the link, they don't seem to be too significant to me. Do you think that they really worth the money?
