Should I get a new 1150 board on thrift store find?

To make a long story short I found a Intel Core i5-4670 CPU, Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H Motherboard, EVGA 760 Graphics Card, and a off brand case. All of it looked almost new and for $20 at a local thrift store. I took the chance and everything booted fine with a new EVGA 80 PLUS GOLD 550W ECO power supply and 8GB of ram I had setting around on out of case boot test. Is it worth dumping the Z87 board and getting a Z97? I have a 970 GPU I'll ad. I'm just going to use this as a spare gamer for when my boys friends come over.

Kind off what I was thinking but I thought I'd still ask. I'll just get a reasonable priced 250 GB SSD, Cryorig H7, and maybe a better case since the airflow doesn't look good at all plus its really flimsy. Something like the Fractal Design Define S. This should keep the whole cost of this project to under $300.
