So I'm looking for a new motherboard for my gateway fx-6860.
Currently I'm confused about which size I can currently fit in there.

My other components I plan on putting in there replacing the factory options are

Gpu: EVGA GeForce 970 possibly going to get the new Nvidia 1070 coming out in June.

PSU: 750 watts

Memory: PNY anarchy 2x8gb DDR4 2400MHz

Motherboard: MSI MSI Gaming Z170A XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM EDITION LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 8M Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80662I76700K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 530

So I'm pretty much overhauling the whole computer. But mostly would that motherboard fit in the stock gateway fx-6860? And is my PSU enough for all of that?

Thanks guys!

I doubt an ATX board can fit into that case. So you will most likely need a micro ATX board. 750w will be adequate, Look up your PSU here, make sure it's a Tier 1 or Tier 2

The GTX 970 should fit fine into that case. As should the 1070. Here's a decent mobo, that should fit ASRock Z170M Extreme 4 You might have a problem putting a cpu cooler in that case (the I7-6700K requires an aftermarket cooler)

Thanks for the quick response. Now if I didn't use my old case for all these components especially because I really want that motherboard listed above, what case would be best that fits the motherboard and all of the other components perfect?

You're welcome. Not knowing your budget, but knowing that you're willing to spend close to $300 for a motherboard, and a 970 or 1070 indicates you want quality components. My way of thinking is that a great case and a great PSU are the foundation for a computer that can be upgraded for years to come. Here's a build for you to consider:

This build is the same, with 16gb of the PNY Anarchy instead of the G.Skills...a Geforce GTX 970, will save you about $80-100 compared to the 1070, but I would seriously consider the 1070, since you are planning to use current generation for every major part.

I already own the 970 card but I'm thinking about selling it to a friend of mine in order to buy the 1070. Don't really have a budget. I just plan on replacing the mobo, processor, and ram. So for the mobo I just gotta look for a case that is ATX?
