no, noway, even if tests arent out i can state that for sure, since the gtx1080 cant even do 100fps in all games at 1440p, even in settings below ultra like high/very high, there is no way a 1070 can, unless you severely lower quality settings, and then whats the point?

At 1440p? yes ultra and all that jazz. at 4K? it should perform as well as the titan, whihc means 50-60 FPS on medium to high. but this is all speculation. also 1070 could be more gimped then expected.

Well, we can see that the 1080 is noticeably faster than the titan X. Nividia gimped the 1080 by around 25% to make a 1070. Thus, if the 1070 is 25% slower, it should fall right around a titan or a 980ti. and a 980ti/ titan can do 4K medium to high settings 60 FPS. ( perhaps not for the absolute most demanding games, but for most it will do that.
4k medium 60fps to 1440p 100+fps is still a huge difference
will a 1080 do 1440p at 100+fps on medium settings in most games? yes, would there be any point?
imo medium settings on most games just to get 100+ fps would not be worth it, would rather hav higher quality settings and then accept 60 fps+
BUT thats the 1080, there is noway the 1070 will do the same, they already (as predicted) cheaped out and only used gddr5, already a sign of how they are gimping it, would indicate we should expect further "gimp"

without sacrificing graphical quality to such a degree it should be reconsidered and "accept" a 60+ fps with good quality settings instead..

dont get me wrong, the 1070 will handle 1440p just great,
but at about 60+fps on highest/high setting, just like the 970 its meant for 1440p, so should expect to handle an average steady FPS in the 60 range
the 1080 will at 1440p give you in between in between 60-90fps on highest settings, in current games
(some games are crazy demanding like Ashes of the Singularity so the gtx1080 drops to about 60+fps, in a game like that on max settings on 1440p, but then in a game like Rise of the Tomb raider you get 90+ FPS,
and newer games might get even more demanding despite DX12/Vulcan, which is why 100+fps cant be guaranteed on anything other than medium settings, even tho a few games might very well be able to give it at max settings)
you dont "need" 100fps
but
it is way more smooth and better to play at even compared to 60fps in many games, no question about it, not even debatable
granted anything above 120/140 really does feel and seem to get pointless, but there is a difference from 60 to 100+
but, again,
not to such a degree that i would ever consider sacrificing graphical quality to gain 100 fps vs steady 60+
running a game maxed out and getting 60 steady is perfect, reducing quality to medium to get 100 i wouldnt personally do
but if you were able to get 100 fps with somewhat maxed out settings because of having a top end card, then yes, that is quite enjoyable in a bunch of games compared to "only" 60.
and then again, the good thing about a high end card is that, while it might/can give high framerate in some games, when a demanding or really crappy optimized game comes out, it means that atleast it wont dip down to crappy console 20-30ish framerates
