SSD to HDD Clone, can't get done with EaseUS Todo Backup

I have a Samsung 850 evo SSD that I use now as my main operating drive. I want to do a clone backup onto my old HDD (I have regularly done clone backups using EaseUS todo backup and a Thermalake BlacX). EaseUS recognizes the HDD, but when I start the clone, an error message appears, and the HDD is no longer recognized by either EaseUS or Windows Explorer. I'm running Windows 7. Do I have to reformat the HDD into some other setting before it can take the clone from my SDD? Many thanks for your attention to this

^^^ Good point. Download Crystal Disk Info. Make sure the drive says Good. if it says Caution or Bad it more than likely won't clone.
