I'm trying to overclock my MSI r9 390 but most OC guides I'm using mention a temp limit slider. I can't find one in MSI afterburner, so I was just wondering if there was any way to activate it if it's missing, or if it's even that important to actually overclock.

Temp Limit

With the new GeForce GTX7xx / Titan series vgas came an enhanced version of the boost introduced with GTX6xx vgas. Boost 2.0 adds a Temp Limit to the previous Power Limit. So now the available boost is not only determined by the Power Limit but also by the set Temp limit. To change the Temp limit you need a supporting version of Afterburner (3.00 Beta 10 and above). Click on the down arrow next to the Power limit slider and Temp Limit becomes available.

no theres no temperature limit in afterburner. you have to use a hardware monitoring device to monitor your hardware temperatures. keep them under 90C always, and below 85C is the optimal, and minimal throttling. temps are important because you do not want to overheat your card and damage it. you can set a custom fan curve so that fans go 100% when the card hits 70C. also remember, don't go over 1.3v on the card for life, and also remember to test every 30-40MHz interval with Ungine Heaven benchmark. no artifacts and no overheating, increase by 30-40MHz again for clocks. then test. increase voltage or back down when it artifacts. more voltage=more heat keep in mind. thermal runaway.
