Hi guys i really need some help after countless hours of looking for a solution.

My R9 280X had been crashing when i was playing the division. Temperature peaked at 96 degrees before the game hangs with the message from AMD prog "Display Driver stopped responding/ xxx xxx has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware"

May i know what are the possible reasons for the error message tgt with my game hanging and crashing?

I do see weird light spots in game right before it crashes everytime.

I've never had this problem from when the division came out, it was only today that i encounter game hanging n crashing, after i did an upgrade from window 7 to window 10 on a new ssd i bought.

Here is my rig:
MOBO: GIGABYTE B85M-D3H
Intel I5-4590
GPU: Radeon R9 280X
2 x 4gb ram
1 x Samsung 1TB Hdd
1 x Hitachi 2TB Hdd
1 x Samsung Evo 850 SSD (500GB)
PSU HX 750W

I've been running my rig for about 7 hours without crash just customizing windows 10 and installing all my programs. The crash comes only during gaming.

1 out of the 3 fans on my GPU sounds cranky.

I'll let The Division run now while i sleep and see if it crashes when i wake up later. Temperature only peaked at 96degree when i am moving around engaging enemies.

Temperature of GPU when i'm idling inside game is at 70degree, no crash from this activity.

I've uninstall restart and installed quite a few versions of the amd software with the same crash in the end.

i increased TDR value to 20 but problem still persists.

I did opened up my GPU and vacuum the dust between the heat sinks. I realised the thermal paste has already dried up but i didnt apply any on it as i do not have it. i figured that it should have dried up for a couple of months and since its been working for the past couple of months i dont see why it cant continue to work.

I realise some people mention that GPU running at 9x degree won't make it crash but mine is.

Thanks in advance :)

Solution
I believe you are on the right track, it seems your GPU is getting too hot. With the side cover removed from your PC, does this same issue occur?

Alright I'll go get thermal paste to apply it on my gpu and cpu and try to get the same problem happening again. Will update back here with the result.

Btw I am Gna be replacing my gpu fan, should the fan be blowing towards the heat sink or sucking the air away from the heat sink?

Do keep the comments coming as id like to know all possible reasons for the problem I'm facing. Thank you

I've managed to solve this issue of over heating by applying thermal paste between the heat sink and the chip. It's amazing how the temperature dropped from 97 degree to 72degree when im playing the division.
Therefore lesson learnt, don't underestimate the effectiveness of thermal paste, always reapply if you remove heat sink from cpu or gpu.

P.S did not change GPU fans in the end as no stores sell the parts. Guess i'll have to continue living with the cranky sound.
