i have an older desktop just bought for like $3 it works fine just the power supply has failed. here is the quesiton i have another desktop i am working on putting together, will my 600 watt power supply that i cant use on my custom built pc work on a pc that normally has a 300 watt power supply, im just wondering cause i would like to really test and see if the pc will work. im just wondering if it would over heat the cpu or it would be fine with it?

Solution
You should be able to use it with no problems as long as the form factor (ATX, SFX) is the same and the old one isn't a proprietary design with a 10 or 14 pin main ATX cable. The PSU will only supply what the system requires.

the graphics card doesnt have any connections that goes to it, it just plugs into the pci and all you do, the graphics card is my only resource for video, the mother board doesnt have any onboard vga dvi or hdmi ports.

now i got a question not sure if you can answer this or not, but the computer, is clocking high just idling. ive checked everything i could pc monitor and it shows that the ram is being used to the max, but no programs are even opened. do you think the cpu has seen its better days?

Not sure what you mean by clocking high, but you can go into the task manager and check CPU and RAM usage under performance. If you see high usage there, you can look under the Processes tab and see what is causing this. It may be just a Windows update or virus scan in progress.

the only thing that is running in the back ground is all the main stuff you see in the processing tab, windows files or .exe files that are the important files that make the computer go, and its making the computer clock at 100% and ram usage is maxing out its confusing really is, just put a clean install of windows 7 on it. no virus progams installed, not even really done anything on it other than watched youtube videos and the computer is clocking at 100% and stays there for like 5 minutes then it goes down to about 60% then goes back up.
