Do I have to plug in the HD Audio, USB, HD LED and Case Fan Control before I install the OS

Gremlins and the "fiddle factor." I don't know what I did that got almost everything to work but I'm installing Windows 7 right now.

After doing the plug in one thing at a time again, it appears that the Chassis Fan Connector (what I call the Case Fan Contol below) is what is preventing the system from powering up. I just left that disconnected and started the OS installation.

So the question that remains is: Do I need the Chassis Fan Connector? If not, what do I give up by that not being connected?

I will note, and will post in the ASRock forum, that the wires on that connector for my case (Antec Two Hundred) don't seem to match the pattern on the motherboard connector. I'll troubleshoot that in another thread.

Thank you.

I'm building a new system. ASRock H97M Pro4, Intel 3258, G.Skills Sniper DDR3-1600 and a new Adata SSD. Am using existing case, DVD and Antec Earthworks Green 380W power supply which are all 5 years old.

Last night it wouldn't even power up.

This morning I unplugged just about everything and then plugged in the CPU and MoBo power and the Power Switch and it powered up.

Question 1: The stock CPU fan seems to hesitate before spinning. It is noisy and then settles down to silence. Is this normally how a CPU fan spins up?

Next, I plugged in all of the other connectors. USB (front panel), HD Audio, Reset, etc. Wouldn't power up.

Then I stripped it back down to just the Power Switch but added the SATA DVD and SSD and it powered up.

Tried adding the HD Audio, USB, etc one at a time and it wouldn't power up when I tested each one separately.

Unplugged everything back to the Power Switch. It powered up. I added a monitor, keyboard and mouse and got to the UEFI screen.

Added the DVD, SSD and Reset Switch and it powered up and was able to boot to a Tails login.

Question 2: Can I load Windows 7 to the SSD without plugging in the HD Audio, USB (front panel), HD LED and Case Fan Control?
The case fans are spinning so I'm guessing I just wouldn't be able to control them through the motherboard if I don't plug in that connector.
I don't need the front panel USB right now but do want the HD Audio eventually. Not sure if the HD LED is necessary.

Question 3: Should I continue troubleshooting the motherboard before installing the OS?
Is it possible that the problem with USB, HD Audio, and the Case Fan Control are BIOS/UEFI settings?

Please answer the unknown unknowns if you know them.

Thank you.

only five years? so what, I'm older.
Q1: No it is not normal it's old, it does the same then my bones, moaning and groaning, do your cpu a favor and get it a new one.
Q2: 1: yes, 2: no, LED's are not necessary, power button (easier than a screwdriver) SSD, keyboard and mouse and you may install your windows and after that the "missing" drivers, don't forget to set a recovery point before you make changes or driver install!!!
Q3: Yes, it is possible, you will see after your windows is running with all drivers necessary.
