Cheapest Way to Improve Internet?

So I've been having some difficulties with my internet. I currently have Verizon FIOS so that means I have to use the Actiontec router. I also use a wireless connection with a tp-link adapter, but the adapter is very unreliable and I want to give myself a near seamless internet experience. I am thinking about some ways to do this.

1. Because I have a coax outlet thing in my room, could I get another router and use ethernet for my computer? I'm planning to use an 802.11 N router because i only have 50/50. Would this provide any benefit or not?

2. Get a wireless range extender. I know there are issues with this as well because range extenders can hurt connection.

3. Get a new adapter, but I don't think this will give me optimal performance given the long range form my computer to the router.

I'm looking for the cheapest and most effective option.
Thanks

You can not add a second modem to the connection, I don't think the coax is actually running cable modem protocols though. I think they use moca between the ONT box and the modem.

You likely can use a MoCA adapter and use the coax. Its been a long time since i used FIOS so you are best checking with verizon.

If that fails I would use powerline, they are much better when wireless is not working well in your house.
