[strike]So I've built my first pc and it appears to start up a treat - all the fans and LEDs are working, but I haven't yet been able to get it to show up on my monitor. I've tried it on two monitors using my onboard VGA and HDMI slots and nothing seems to work. I just bought a motherboard speaker and I don't get any beeps - I know that it CAN POST, because I tried booting with no RAM and it gave me the three beeps as expected. I have checked and double checked all of my wiring and can't find a problem (I've definitely plugged in the 4-pin CPU power), and I've tried every configuration RAM using 1 and 2 RAM sticks in each slot. I've also removed the motherboard battery temporarily.

I'm thinking it will either be my motherboard or my CPU.. Is there any way for me to check without having to buy new parts to test? I don't have any spare computers laying around to check different parts. :/[/strike]

Update:

So I've ended up buying a new motherboard and it still doesn't work - I've breadboarded my system and it will never post when RAM is plugged in. The fact that I'm now using a new motherboard suggests that either my RAM is incompatible or was simply bust out of the box, right? I made sure to get DDR3 RAM, and I'm using the msi B85M-E45 motherboard. Is there anything else I should have looked for to check if it's incompatible?

Newer Update:

So I think I've made a horrible, embarrassing mistake.

The list of compatible RAM on the msi website for my motherboard lists the Patriot PSD38G1600KH.. I bought the Patriot PSD38G1600K .. Without the H on the end. My particular RAM is not listed as being compatible - is this likely to be my issue?

I'm using an Intel i5 4690k, I've tried using the graphics card instead of my onboard video but it's given me the same results :/
