Core i7 vs Core i5. Worth the money for me?

I've read probably 20 threads about this topic, sorry to ask this question again. Here is my dilemma. I have two haswell computers. One with an i3 the other with a i5. I'm going to get a gtx 1080 and I want to move my current card into the i3 pc but I think it would be a waste with that processor. (card is a r9 290).

In the computer getting the gtx 1080 I'm trying to decide if its worth getting a i7 or not. This pc is mainly used for gaming but my wife uses it to record videos of her playing the sims. She edits them using a program called corel video studio x9. She records the videos using an el gato hd 60 capture device. She plans to make videos of her playing the new planet coaster game when it comes out in september.

What I want to know is it better for me to just get a second i5 or would it be worth while to get an i7 for the computer we record on? The price of an i5 4590 is $159 the i7 4790 is $250. (microcenter) What I want to know is would I really see any benefit from the roughly $100 for what she does? I know for general gameplay it wont matter but what about these other uses?

Solution
The games she's playing aren't too demanding, but she would see better performance for the recording/editing by using the i7. Tough call, but you wouldn't have any regrets using the i7. The i3 isn't optimal for the R9 290, but it could still game with very good frame rates.

Thanks, I'm going to microcenter tomorrow and I'll make my choice then. I'm leaning towards just getting a second i5 because I doubt there will be a huge difference. I have been reading reviews saying that planet coaster actually uses the i7's hyperthreading but I'm not sure I want to pay for one game. On the plus side my wife likes to upgrade the pc too so at least I wont have that hurdle.

So I went to microcenter...
Ended up with a core i7 4790k for $289. Got it with a free motherboard that I'm going to use to turn the i3 into a hackintosh for my wife to replace her aging imac. So it was about the same as the cheaper i7 4790. Also because I got a processor and motherboard I also got a coupon to get $10 off a ram kit so I got another 16gb crucial ram kit for $40.

In the end I spent way more than I wanted but it was an ok deal overall. At least that is what I'm telling myself. :)
