my computer is showing a operating system not found error.. so i need ur help guys i m thinking to install a new window like windows 8.1 and now i have windows 7 so if i install the new window..will i be able to save my data its very important data guys pls help if it will work also i m not able to find a windows 7 dvd so i would have recovered my data

If data is so important you should have backed it up !!!!! Like this it's most likely you will loose it when you install OS again. It's also important to keep data on at least separate partition if not on another disk.
Your best bet would be to install a live Linux on an USB stick and transfer data to another place.
