A few weeks ago I got auto-upgraded by TWC from 7mbps plan to 50 mbps. I'm currently still getting 7mbps when I download anything from DDL-ing torrents to official servers like steam and origin.

Time Warner says they can't help me and even sent a technician and said the same thing.
He called a friend of his and suggested port forwarding, after the call and received instructions, ffrom his friend who was willing to help, then told me its my responsibility and just said google it.

How can I utilize this 50mbps plan? I don't think my computer understands the upgrade that's happened and functioning as it was with my previous plan. I'm currently wired from modem.

Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated!

Do you own your modem or rent it from TWC? What model modem? If you own it you may not have a modem that is compatible with the 50Mbit service tier. You might have bad coax going to the modem.

Port forwarding should have nothing to do with performance. If TWC thinks that something you did is impacting your performance, then do a factory reset on the modem. It doesn't sound like you are using a router.

When your ISP says 50mbps they mean that your plan has a theoretical maximum of 50mbps, like when you buy a router and it says 300mbps it will never reach 300mbps. If you are using DSL then DSL has a maximum limit of 5-12mbps if they gave you a VDSL line you need a VDSL router, did your ISP change your router when you upgraded your plan? If not ask them if you need a new router to take advantage of the new speeds.

Plug laptop or pc directly into modem and do a speed test to rule out a crappy router. If you are using a Wireless G router you need to upgrade. Wireless G says up to 54Mbps speeds but the fastest I ever got is around 15Mbps.
