Computer turns off whenever I play a game

Hey. I have an issue where my computer will just shut off (no blue screen or anything) whenever I play a game, typically after 4 minutes. I can use my computer for other things such as browsing the web, watching movies etc, but whenever I open up a game after 4 minutes it will turn off. This has happened with both counter strike global offensive and league of legends.

Here are my specs:
Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 (4 cores) 3.20 Ghz
Memory: 16Gb RAM
GPU: Tri-X R9 290X 8G
Motherboard: M4A87TD/USB3

UPDATE: Just jumped on today and decided to try it out. It's working. Playeed a match of league of legends, no crash. Monitered my GPU temp and it went higher than 57 which is where it crashed during my stress test yesterday
UPDATE 2: Regular crashing occured at beginning of 2nd match, 3-4 minutes in. Decided to just watch the new Game of Thrones ep, and it crashed about 5 minutes into that. Chrome was the only appication running at the time it crashed with only one tab open.

Solution
Temps seem normal.
Under load the GPU +12v dropped to 11.72 sometimes. So can be gpu issue. Lowest minimum on +12v is 11.4. So your psu can drop to that.
Can you run the system without GPU perfectly? Also if you can borrow a psu from a friend(must be a quality one) you can test your system with that to make sure it is indeed the psu.

Sounds like it could be an overheating problem. Most likely candidate being the GPU (although LoL shouldn't stress it much).

Find some heat monitoring software and something you can use to stress your GPU and CPU individually while monitoring the temperature of both. Make a note of the temperature at which the computer shuts down. If you can reproduce the shutdown this way, you are halfway to identifying and solving your problem.

Just tested the GPU using Valley Benchmark 1.0, and my pc crashed when my GPU was at 57 degrees celcius after running for around 3-4 minutes.

Just tested the CPU using Prime95, my CPU reached 66 degrees celcius before my pc crashed, this also only lasted around 3-4 minutes.

Hmm. I suppose it could be another chip (a bridge?) that is shutting down. I have limited experience with this aside from losing a bridge to a passive heatsink that came lose because one of the clamps had broken.

Presumably you can run your computer for more than 5 minutes when you don't stress it. Right? :)

My knowledge of bridges and other motherboard components is hopelessly out of date I'm afraid. Perhaps someone else would like to chip in and help out a bit here.

Yeah I can run my computer for hours if it's not under stress. I watched a movie last night and it was fine.

Which voltages am I looking for specifically?
The +12V are all between 12.000V - 12.150V
The +5V are all between 5.000V - 5.060V
The +3.3V are all between 3.300V - 3.384V
