Why do i get fps drops in games?

I keep getting fps drops in all games. I first noticed it in cs go when i would get random drops to about 50 fps from about 250. Then i noticed it is happening in most of the games im playing. I cleaned my pc of dust and i am getting a new cpu fan (cooler master hyper 212 evo) as i am still using the one you get in the box (its super loud and awful). i have tried fixes like messing around with the game files but that didnt fix anything so i noticed its probably a hardware issue. Also tried unparking cores on my cpu but that also changed nothing.

My pc specs;

CPU: AMD FX 8320
GPU: nvidia geforce gtx 950
RAM: 8gb hyper x fury
hard drive: 1tb wd blue
Mobo:ASUS M5A78L-M LX3

Thanks in advance.

Solution
Monitor your CPU frequency. VRM throttling is very common on those boards when paired with a 125w CPU like the 8320. Likly the cpu is getting throttled to ~1.4Ghz and causing the fps drops
reset your nvidia control pannel back to default. then open up GF experience and turn off game optomization's

if that doesnt help use ccleaner and clear out any startup entries you dont need.
leave your mouse, keyboard, gfx, headset drivers and antivirus. everything else disable.(delete 1s you know there not needed).
use ccleaner to clean the registry (save any changes before there made or just fix and delete, i prefer the latter)
reboot and try gaming.

Hi James,

What temps are you getting during the game?

You can leave something like HWmonitor running in the background or play game in window.

Also check GPU temps, as it sounds like somethings being throttled down

HWinfo or cpu-z would work. The 212 will direct air away from the vrms which will make a problem with overloaded and overheating vrms even worse.

No..
Play a game or benchmark in in a window mode and with hwmonitor running, after 10 mins make screenshots of all the temps during the game or benchmark.

It may be even be the northbridge heatsink needs new paste, or one of the parts is failing to fully utilize, becuase of the PSU, but we cant say unless you post some screenshots please.

If it's VRM throttling, then yes a better motherboard should resolve the issue.

Try minimizing the game when the fps drop and see what the clock speed core 0 is reporting or minimize the game then start hwinfo to make sure we are not just seeing the cpus lower idle speed. You may also want to enable multi-core rendering as it seems to only be using 1 core and that could be hindering performance aswell. Do you have a 2nd monitor?
