A way to remove Dell's fan lock?

I got a Dell Optiplex 960 SFF PC based. I game a lot on it and reaches high temperatures, not dangerous temperatures but high, I want to control the fans but programs like SpeedFan ect don't work because Dell has a lock to prevent people turning them down too much and overheating theirs system, I do have an option in BIOS to make the fans run at full speed all the time but they are way too loud, I can't use a fan controller because Optiplex don't start if a fan is faulty/unplugged. I contacted a local IT shop and they told me that they are not sure if this is possible but the fans should increase speed if I unplug one of the two heat sensors, so I did and sure enough, the fan speeds increased but only by like 600 RPM which is nothing. Is there a way to remove the lock?

I don't know of any way to change that other than a firmware change. I presume that is coded into BIOS. I have a Precision T3500 that is similar in as much as fan speed is not changeable in BIOS. But I found that using HWinfo64's fan control, I can make a medium and high speed change in the speed of the 2 front case fans. You might try that and see if it helps any.

Otherwise, you may want to set the fan(s) at high speed and just use a resistor to get the speed you want.

You can sometimes find these in sets of two impedances that allow for 5v and 7v output so you can try which you like the best.
