Current specs:
GIGABYTE A88XM-HD3 (BIOS version F7)
AMD A4-6300 (Temporary, see below; Also not using integrated graphics)
EVGA GeForce GTX960
2x RIPJAWS 4GB 240-pin DDR3 1333
Corsair CX600M

My issue is that when I bought all these at first (last September), I had tried to use an Athlon X4-860K, and it didn't even POST. Even when I didn't have the 960 plugged in, it didn't POST. I looked for solutions online; I found a thing that told me to replace the PSU. That didn't work. I bought a new CPU-Mobo combo(Which is where the A4 came from, the mobo was a F2A68HM-H) and the Athlon still didn't work. I then tried using a non-GIGABYTE mobo(MSI A88XM GAMING) and that still didn't POST. I then sent the Athlon back to AMD claiming it DOA, and they sent me a new one. I tried that one and (wouldn't you know it?) it still didn't even POST.

Recently, however, I've been wasting time on PC Part Picker and saw that I may have to update the BIOS for it to support the CPU. Looking at this handy-dandy chart, I found out that I needed to use the F7 version of the BIOS if I wanted to use my 860k. I went to the good ol' cmd and used the wmic bios get smbiosbiosversion command and...

I'm using version F7. It's been F7 since I bought the mobo. And the Athlon still refuses to work. As you can probably tell, I'm very, very frustrated and am looking desperately for a solution at this point. Can someone PLEASE help me with this so I can stop wasting money on "solutions" that don't even work? Thanks in advance!

You said "Even when I didn't have the 960 plugged in, it didn't POST." You do realize that the Athlon X4 860K has no iGPU, right? You'll never see POST w/o a gfx card installed.

If you have a working card in the PCIe x16 slot and you know the slot works, and if you can get the A4-6300 to produce a display, and if you are sure you have the correct BIOS (or later) for the 860K... then all you can do is once again return the CPU. Or take the system to a shop and have them test the CPU, the board, etc. From your explanation, it should work.

It just so happens that I had actually not tried the Athlon with the 960 in its slot, so I went back and did that...

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU x1000
:DMy Athlon, my A88X mobo, and my GTX 960 all thank you for helping me realize my stupidity.:D

Don't feel bad. I've caught myself putting together many a build and wondering why there was no display when connected to the motherboard video port... only to have forgotten I was using a CPU with no iGPU. So don't feel bad. I've been doing this for years and still do dumb stuff.
