Hello, I am trying to root my LG vs840pp. I realize this is dangerous, but installing roms is the only way of updating a $13 2012 phone. I have looked over the run.sh of this one rooting software, and it seems solid. The only problem is that my phone will not give permission to write to the /system and /local directory. I have tried chmod 777, but I get the error that the /system directory is a read only directory.

I was considering kingoroot, but I expected I would have to pay. I was Right!! Kingotoot almost installed a virus, but Panda antivirus is better than that to let a virus install. Also i unchecked the box to install chromium yahoo search. Thanks anyway. My phone is now kingo rooted.
At least I did not download this rom. It seems like a sham to jump through hoops to get a rom. Also the comments are probably stolen from another site. The first guy is always 18 hours ago and you can't even like a post without the 405 error.

I did root it. I am now wondering if i can install a recovery option like cwm. I used rom manager and got no where. I put the phone in fastboot and used flash recovery cwm.img (in the right directory). I used the app reboot recovery to try to reboot into recovery mode, but I only got to fastboot.

Try the power button and the volume down buttons together when you switch the phone on. That gives you the option to recover or install a APK

I use a Nandroid backup to a micro SD Card. There are two ways of doing it but one is useless in a total breakdown situation. In a partial system failure, so long as you get to open the Nandroid utility, you can restore the system to the day you created the backup.

I know about that trick, and that is essentially what the reboot recovery app did. There is no menu, it is a black screen with white text telling you it is in fastboot. The only thing I can do there is use fastboot. The power button is the only button that does something (turns it off). My phone is working well, but I want a recovery so I can install cyanogenmod.

williams-imac is the name of the computer. I copied directly out of terminal. I did not install adb/fastboot, but it works just fine to reference it by navigating to it. The " -i 0x1ebf oem device-info" was something I found online that tells me about the bootloader partitions. I think it said it can't read it because the secure boot is on (s-on).

Use the direct approach. Download Termional Emulator from the Store and use the command ls to list the files. Use cd {name of folder to examine next} then ls again to list the contents. That will probably be "system" Root File Manager from the store will also show you wnat you can and cannot see.

Be careful with cd. Using it without specifying where you want to go will take to to Home and that isn't where you want to be so you'll have to restart the Terminal.
