Hello there :)

After the nice pascal announcements I decided to build my new "classy" desktop pearl. I am waiting for the asus gtx 1080 release and will start the ordering process and till then I thought of asking you for any advice or changes on my ROG build.

Here's my PcPartPicker list

I will play some games on it and want a nice and clean 1440p120 experience. But I have a question:

As you can see on my list, I will use a Samsung 950 M.2 ssd for OS (Win10). Is there something tricky or important I should be aware? I will use a 1TB 850 pro for storage as well.
It's the first time I'll use a M.2.

I think that with the Lian Li Pc-O7s case, the Avexir ROG tesla DDR4s, Asus ROG mobo and (hopefully) an amazing ROG GTX 1080 this will be a nice and shiny pearl.

I'm open for any thoughts and advice on my components list! :D

Solution

Ok, you asked so here's my thoughts.

  • ■ I see no potential bottleneck.
■Why risk a $4000 build with a noisy $100 liquid cooler that may leak?
■The 32GB uber expensive memory is a colossal waste.
■The 950 m.2 are way over priced and not worth it.
■$400 for a case? I just don't know what to say. Your money.
■The RMx PSU for about half the money is great quality.
■Win 10 retail version on USB is transferable later on.
■For less money you could have a GTX 1080 SLI system with major bragging rights and 4K...
Much faster, quieter, faster CAS 12 memory, GTX 1080 SLI for less money.

Thx for your input!

I'm aware of the CAS latency but I prefer the Avexir ones for the esthetic effect on my build. The look is important to me since I'll build it on a PC-O7s

You think it will bottleneck/ruin my build so much?

Esthetic + performance = I'm aware of the cost :D

Your suggestions are realy good I see the difference. I'm thinking of upgrading later on SLI but not sure cuz I'm planning to add a soundcard too and I'm limited on space

I chose 32Gs cuz some games and applications I'm playing are reaching 15-18GB usage. That's why I pick a m.2, to boost my applications.

I will definitely check your list again

Thx for your input I appreciate your thoughts !

I'd like to reaffirm my stance on the AIO coolers. They are not trustworthy enough for the money they cost to risk on such an expensive build. A custom made cooling loop done by a pro would be better or a high end air cooler. Your best interest in mind.
