Best 7.1 sound card?

I need the best 7.1 sound card out there for my newly built computer. I am a very hardcore soundwhore-ish gamer ;) I need some recommendations as I don't know where to start with sound cards. I don't have a budget/price limit^^ which means I don't care about the price

7.1 means 8 discrete channels. Your headset is 2 channels, stereo. Virtual surround is only 2 channels. A 7.1 card will do nothing for you except cost you money and add complexity. Virtual surround is software creating an illusion.
