I recently bought an HP Compaq 8000 Elite SFF on Ebay for 20USD. I wanted a good machine for some basic work, but I didn't want to have to pay a ton for a custom build. I want to upgrade this machine to be able to run some basic games (CSGO, etc, nothing huge). Here are the basic stats as they currently are:
HDD: 3TB WD Blue
CPU: 3.00Ghz Intel Core Duo 2 (Integrated Graphics)
16GB Ballistix DDR3 RAM
240W Power Supply
I'm looking to buy a graphics card for this machine that will work on the 240W power supply. So far, after some basic research I've found some people recommend the AMD Sapphire Radeon HD6570 1GB DDR3 HDMI Low Profile. I wanted to know if there was anything that I could get that would be more powerful than this, or if this card will even work with my machine.
After eyeballing it, I'm not sure it will actually fit. Granted, I'm somewhat new to PC building, so I could be wrong.

I would greatly appreciate some guidance for choosing the right card! Thanks

At 240w, your options are *extremely* limited. Even the 6570 uses too much power to stay comfortably under 240w for the whole system.

I reccomend a passive gpu like this 5450: http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-Profile-PCI-Express-ONXFX1PLS2/dp/B007B5YUMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463985516&sr=8-1&keywords=hd+5450

This 6450: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-Radeon-Silence-Profile-PCI-Express/dp/B004X8EO6Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1463985452&sr=8-3&keywords=hd+6570

Or this gt710 if you'd rather go with Nvidia: http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT-710-1GD3H-LP/dp/B01AZHOWL0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1463985543&sr=8-6&keywords=gt+710

These cards are slower than the 6570 but honestly at 240w they're as well as you can do...

According to HPs own spec sheet...

According to HPs own spec sheet the only card they dared to put in this machine was an even slower HD4650...

All three will handle lower settings in CS:GO at 720p just fine.

Using any card at all, even these fanless ones, is going to push that PSU to the absolute limit though, I would be very vigilant if you're going to do this as these PCs were designed for office use, and the parts really aren't good enough to handle even some of the weakest GPUs on the market today.

Thanks for the in depth response. I didn't realize that 240W would limit me so much. After a quick look at the PSU, I'm not sure it would be feasible to just buy a higher rated unit, as the shape seems fairly specific. Was wondering if there were any options for me to upgrade the PSU to be able to handle a better card. Or am I just better off salvaging what I can from this and building a totally new PC with some of the parts. I'm not too concerned, as I've only invested 20USD into this, and I can definitely salvage the HDD,/RAM.

Is it worth it to upgrade the PSU and GPU rather than just building a new PC from the ground up?
