Rams combination question - DDR3

Hi everyone,

I have 2nd gen system and currently my rams setup is this:

2x2x2=6GB corsair value select ram @1333MHZ.

Now i have one slot empty and I am getting 4GB same value select with same bus speed in very cheap deal so can i go with total 10gb? Will I face any performance issues or something like that?

well no more issues then what you have anyways. I haven't ever seen a 3 way memory controller. means your build is already running in prob just single channel mode. what is your specific motherboard and cpu??

The issues you might face is simply that it may not work. RAM either works or it doesn't there is no way to guarantee other than buying kits straight from the manufacturer. Throwing in a completely mismatched mem module 4Gb instead of 2 Gb increases the odds it won't work. The only way to tell for sure though would be to try it.

well if its all corsair value select and of same timing then good chance it will work. based off of the motherboard info you wont see any performance issues. also it does say it supports mixed sizes so again as long as they have the same timing you should be fine.

You can try, no guarantees when mixing packages of DRAM, I'd go for a 2x4GB set of 1333, that way you have 8GB that will work and could try adding a couple of the 2 GB sticks for a bonus and have 12GB or sell off the old DRAM
