So here's the problem, my HITACHI - ULTRASTAR 1TB 7200RPM 32MB hard disk is failing(at least I think). Basically, whenever my computer is powered on, my drive makes these god awful sounds, which can't be healthy. I'm not sure exactly what my best course of action is. I'm interested in purchases a small SSD to keep windows on and another 1tb hard disk, but I don't know how to go about transferring my files to these new drives. Any tips/recommendations appreciated!

Solution
Buy the drives you need, install ONLY the SSD, install windows, connect new hard drive. setup as the drive letter you want, then plug in bad drive and copy over what you can. That is really all you can do.

You can download crystal disk info as well to see if it is failing. even if it shows good there are other ways it could be failing.
