External hard drive disconnects every hour, on the hour...

Kind of a weird issue here...using a Dell Inspiron 13 running Windows 10, i7 processor, 8 GB ram, 64 bit. Running through a Lizteck Lapdock docking station. I have a second hard drive attached to the dock via USB, a WD 5000BPKT in an Orico hard drive enclosure.

Lately, every hour, on the hour (9 minutes past), this hard drive disconnects and reconnects. And I can't figure out why. Adjusted the sleep settings on the USB ports to "never" for both battery and plugged in. Tried both USB 2,0 and 3.0 connections. Plugged, unplugged, you name it. No difference.

If it was randomly disconnecting, I would say bad cable. But it's not--this happens every hour, on the hour. Which means something is trying to communicate and can't, causing the disconnect. What that something might be is a mystery.

The drive is showing up in Windows, so there's no problem there.

Any ideas?

did u get any error message?? or any kind of error sound?
if your information is correct (just after an hour is disconnecting), so your symptoms are indicate a bad settings into your Inspiron control panel (not windows control panel)....... see there and confirm there is not usb settings that may conflict with your external device......!!
u can also check your enclosure's internal connection...!!
do u have any kind of software about hdd or usb storage that the reason of this problem?

No error message--just that little sound Windows 10 makes when it connects and disconnects to anything USB related. Power saving features have been adjusted to the "never sleep" function for the USB ports. Didn't make a difference.

How would I get into the Inspiron control panel (as opposed to the Windows control panel)? I always thought there was just one control panel.
